Oaxaca's Saturday Market

Posted 1 year ago by avatar jean in response to superstar's question: Where can I buy a nice Indian shawl in Oaxaca? (give a different answer) .

The Saturday market is what you're looking for, my dear, so head for the Central de Abastos, where all the hand-made crafts arrive. You'll find everything from painted pottery to wooden cats and other animal sculptures, but you'll have to activate your negotiation skills. I bought myself a huipiles, meaning a blouse, but the rebozos (shawls) you're after are even greater with designs that depend on the village of origin. Three thirds of Oaxaca's inhabitants are Indians.
